Welcome to Ketchum, Idaho.
Ketchum is a city located in Blaine County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,003.
It is adjacent to Sun Valley; the two communities are inseparable in most visitors' minds, as they share many resources and both sit in the same beautiful valley beneath Bald Mountain, with its world-famous skiing.
The city also draws tourists from around the world to enjoy its fishing, hiking, trail riding, tennis, shopping, and more.
Ketchum offers a huge variety of stores, boutiques and shops. Whether you're looking perusing ski wear or eyeing the area's enormous collection of art, Ketchum has countless outlets for any item on your wishlist.
Ketchum came into being in the late 19th century as a shipping and smelting center for the mines of the Wood River Valley. It is now best known as the gateway to nearby Sun Valley and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
Ketchum is on Hwy 75, the Sawtooth Senic Byway.
Ernest Hemingway arrived in Sun Valley in 1939 to work on his novel, "For Whom The Bell Tolls." Hemingway is buried in Ketchum, where he died on July 2, 1961.
The Scott Ski Pole, an invention which helped revolutionize skiing, was invented by Ketchum's Edward Scott.
Every Labor Day weekend, Ketchum hosts the Wagon Days festival, an old west themed carnival featuring wagon trains, a parade, and even simulated street gunfights.
